Energy Sustainability:  Current Realities and Future Possibilities

Session Format:

Session 1.  Global Overview:  Current Trends and Implications for Sustainability

This presentation will review the global energy situation with reference to indicators of sustainability, noting the implications of growing demand in developing countries, the implications of climate change and other environmental constraints, availability of conventional fuels, and emerging new technologies.

Session 2.  How Do We Get There: Alternative Technologies and Strategies

Panel Topics

  • An Accelerated PV market development strategy     
  • Opportunities from policy intervention, the role of appliance labeling and standards     
  • The potential role for advanced nuclear power technology     
  • Prospects for hydrogen fuels and transportation

This panel will address sustainability from the perspective of particular strategies, including both technologies and policies, to highlight the next steps and choices involved in sustainable energy programs.

The presentations and panel discussions will be followed by audience participation.
