Mission:
To advance university energy research and education.

Composition:
Membership on the Council is open to directors of university-based energy research and education centers. Universities may have multiple representation, based on the number and structure of energy research and education institutions.

The Council's goals are to:

  • Increase the contributions of academia to the energy challenges facing society
  • Increase communication and collaboration among leaders of the academic energy community
  • Increase support for energy research and education
  • More effectively communicate with government, industry, non-governmental organizations, other fields of academic science, engineering and the social sciences, and the concerned public.

Benefits, Services and Activities:

  • Opportunities for networking with, learning from, and collaborating with your colleagues
  • Energy Center web site – information on programs, opportunities, educational resources, etc.
  • List serve – jobs, funding opportunities, conferences, professional exchanges
  • A annual meeting to discuss common challenges and opportunities
  • Federal – reporting on budget issues, communications with federal leaders, including University Federal Dialogue on Energy and Environmental Research and Education

NCSE Role:
NCSE would serve as the Secretariat for the Council.  The group will select its own leadership and determine its own policies and activities.  NCSE’s role will be facilitator and service provider but not a decisionmaker for the group. NCSE plays a similar role with the Council of Environmental Deans and Directors (CEDD), which NCSE helped form in 2001.
